About Allan
Allan Adelman has been engaged exclusively in the practice of hospital and health care law, including the defense of medical malpractice cases, for over 40 years. He serves as general counsel to several acute care general hospitals in Maryland and as special counsel for medical staff, credentialing, peer review, risk management, compliance and hospital-physician issues for numerous other hospitals across the country.
His professional activities focus on the myriad problems hospitals face on a daily basis including hospital-physician relationships, medical staffs bylaws and governance, credentialing, peer review and related hearings, corporate organization and governance, corporate compliance, patient care and consent issues, risk management and liability issues, fraud and abuse and Stark issues, HIPAA matters, regulatory matters such as investigations by licensing or regulatory authorities and medical malpractice defense.
Al is nationally recognized as a leader in health care law and has made numerous presentations to hospital governing bodies, medical staff and at national conferences. From 1995 to 1997, he was chair of the Credentialing and Peer Review Practice Group of the American Health Law Association. Al became a member of the AHLA Board of Directors in 1997 and a member of the Board Executive Committee in 1999. In 2005, he was elected as President of the American Health Law Association.
