September 21, 2012 – 1:00-2:30 PM EST
In this Center for Healthcare Governance webinar, Larry Prybil, PhD, and Rex Killian, JD, will discuss the findings of their latest study on large nonprofit health system governance and reflect on the implications of the study’s recommendations for all health care boards. As consolidation among health care organizations continues, with some 65% of all nongovernmental U.S. hospitals now affiliated with health systems, the findings of this study are particularly timely and suggest what lies ahead for governance of our nation’s hospitals and systems. Participants will learn about the implications of study findings for:
- Clarifying board roles and responsibilities during this time of transformational change in health care;
- Improving the preparation and arrangements for board and board committee meetings, with a growing emphasis on strategic deliberations;
- Improving board evaluation processes to focus on governance outcomes;
- Strengthening board oversight of community benefit and determining the board’s role in the emerging population health arena;
- Making board and organizational leadership succession planning a strategic priority; and
- Developing better mechanisms for board accountability to the community.
