At its annual conference on November 7, the Indiana Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) presented Jeffrey Short, health care attorney and shareholder at Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, with the “Charles Christian Leadership Award.”
The award is named after Charles Christian, Chief Information Officer at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN, who has distinguished himself nationally in the health information technology field and has served in many leadership positions for the HIMSS national organization, including as President of the HIMSS Board of Directors.
Mr. Short has likewise distinguished himself in serving two terms as President of the Indiana HIMSS Chapter and remains on its Board of Directors today. He has also served as the National Advocacy Liaison for HIMSS and helped organize two Midwest HIMSS Technology Conferences. He is well-known throughout the state and at the national level as an experienced leader in health care law and has promoted many state, regional and national HIMSS projects. He has also provided valuable pro bono legal assistance to the Indiana Chapter.
Dr. Alan Snell with St. Vincent Health and immediate past-President of the Indiana HIMSS Chapter, upon nominating Mr. Short for the award, said, “Jeff Short is a dynamic leader in many aspects. His expertise is recognized and admired not only by his legal colleagues but he also understands the complexity of health care systems and has a unique background and deep understanding of health information technologies. He has successfully used this experience in providing valuable leadership over the last decade for the Indiana Chapter of HIMSS and also at the national HIMSS level.”
Debra Hemler with the Indiana Health Information Exchange and current President of the Indiana HIMSS Chapter said, “I can think of no person more deserving of the Charles Christian Leadership Award. He is an enormous resource to me and our chapter on policy and legal matters. He was a huge help to the Midwest HIMSS Conference in Des Moines, IA, setting up an Event Mobi for the conference participants.”
