Code Section 501(r) created a seismic shift in the tax exemption criteria for hospitals. Now that the IRS has unveiled the Final Regulations in this area of law, 501(r) compliance needs to become a focal point for tax-exempt hospitals, which must move swiftly to comply with the new requirements.
Hall Render attorneys have a deep familiarity with Code Section 501(r) and have been educating clients about the new requirements since Congress adopted the Affordable Care Act in 2010. Our attorneys have assisted hospitals in developing and properly approving and publicizing their community health needs assessments. We have worked with clients in reviewing and revising their financial assistance, emergency care and billing and collection policies while providing guidance for hospitals as they work to understand how they must limit their charges for individuals who are eligible for financial assistance.
Hall Render understands that 501(r) compliance requires a team approach. To satisfy the new requirements, a hospital will need the active involvement of numerous hospital departments, from community outreach to the billing department and all the way up to the executive offices. Hall Render’s extensive knowledge of the hospital and health care industry enables our team to engage the right attorneys to find the right solutions for our clients.
